As we move across the periodic table **
In any particular row,
Adding on a proton, pulling on electrons
Makes the atom smaller, you know.

But as we start over on the row below,
We find the atom suddenly gets bigger,
Because we’re starting over
with a new electron shell
Which is shielded
by th’ electron shells below.
