Kinesthetic
Learning Sequences
Learning
through movement is far more powerful than
generally realized in the field of education. Procedural
memory is a highly developed function of the
human brain and may be used to significantly increase
academic learning.
Kinesthetic
learning sequences are a vital part of the total
HOLY MOL-EE! program.
In
addition, purposeful physical movement increases
student attentiveness, alertness and enjoyment.
|
The kinesthetics
in HOLY MOL-EE! are taught and led for you
through the 100+ video clips contained on
the 2 DVDs enclosed in the package. These are all performed
in mirror image so that when students are following,
the important directionality of chemistry may be preserved
from their point of view. There are over 4 hours of video
on the 2 DVDs in HOLY MOL-EE! Each of the 33 songs and memory
aids represented is broken down into 3 sub-clips as shown
below.
| (1)
Instructional: |
Explains
the chemistry while at the same time teaching hand movements,
body movements and signs to represent the concepts being
taught. |
| (2)
Run-Through: |
A
spoken review and run-through of the movements associated
with the song or exercise, often in connection with graphics. |
| (3)
Performance: |
A
leading of the kinesthetic performance, accompanied by
music and, in many cases, with still image graphics. |
The two
sample sets of video clips shown below demonstrate the integration
of song, graphics and kinesthetics to increase student learning.
Samples may be viewed either through Flash (Requires Current
Flash Player 8) or Windows Media Player.
